A first-time WTA singles champion will be crowned Sunday when unseeded Danka Kovinic of Montenegro faces No. 15 seed Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, S.C.

Kovinic cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 upset of No. 12 seed Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in 78 minutes in Saturday's first semifinal. She broke Jabeur's serve four times and saved five of six break points. Kovinic will play in her first final in nearly five years and her first ever at the WTA 500 level.

Kudermetova advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Spain's Paula Badosa, smashing five aces and 28 winners and saving four of five break points.

Kudermetova, who hasn't lost a set all week, won the only previous meeting in straight sets in 2018 in Shenzhen, China.

Colombian wild-card entrant Maria Camila Osorio Serrano will play for her first WTA title on home soil following a 6-1, 6-2 semifinal victory against France's Harmony Tan in Bogota, Colombia.

The 19-year-old Osorio Serrano, a former U.S. Open junior champion currently ranked No. 180 in the world, broke Tan's serve seven times.

Her opponent in Sunday's final is No. 5 seed Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia, who defeated Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria 6-3, 7-5 in the other semifinal. Zidansek overcame a 4-1 deficit in the second set by winning six of the last seven games.
