THE HAGUE, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The first round of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2022 kicked off in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands on Saturday.
Due to the COVID-19 control and prevention measures in the Netherlands, the amateur chess players were not present and there was no audience.
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament is one of the most prestigious events on the international chess calendar.
Chinese chess player Zhu Jiner is competing in the current tournament, which will last until Jan. 30.
