DUBLIN, Ireland: As the government revealed details of the new budget, it was disclosed that many more people will be entitled to assistance in paying their energy bills this winter. And those Irish people receiving the fuel allowance will see an additional one-time lump sum paid to them.

The fuel allowance is currently 33 euros paid weekly for 28 weeks, from the end of September until April 2023.

This year, a one-time payment of 400 euros will be paid out before Christmas, probably in November.

With the additional lump sum, the government of Ireland will be paying 1,324 euros this winter to qualifying citizens.

To date, 375,000 Irish households receive the fuel allowance payment. However, under the new budget, thousands more will qualify for assistance.

The assistance will be offered to more households, as the threshold will rise from the current 120 pounds per week to 200 pounds.

There is a long list of those who qualify for energy assistance, including the poor, the elderly, the disabled, caregivers, and those at various income levels.
